Tension Estimation Method for Cable With Damper Using Natural Frequencies and Two-Point Mode Shapes With Uncertain Modal Order

In the maintenance of cable structures, such as cable-stayed bridges, safety is assessed based on tension. Japan, tension generally estimated from cable’s natural frequencies using higher-order vibration method. recent years, dampers have been installed onto cables to suppress aerodynamic vibrations. Because damper changes frequencies, removed measure and estimate without a damper, then reinstalled. To avoid removal reinstallation, authors previously proposed Method 2F for estimating with removing damper. estimation error method has reported 5%, set target within 5%. However, exceeded 5% in experimental verification. Furthermore, although estimates bending stiffness parameters simultaneously accuracy unsatisfactory. this paper, new 2FM two-point mode shapes. With addition shapes, attempts improve other parameters. The validity was confirmed by numerical simulations experiments. verification that superior higher than 2F, lower are different design values. reason modeling found conducting an element test
